Delicious Swedish meatballs made with a mix of lean ground beef and pork, flavored with cayenne pepper, allspice, and nutmeg. These meatballs are cooked in olive oil, combined with a rich gravy, and served for a comforting meal.
Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion, and cook, stirring regularly, until onion has become translucent and just starting to turn golden, about 5-6 minutes. Sprinkle with the cayenne pepper and stir well. Remove from the heat and let cool slightly.
In a large bowl, using your hands, combine ground beef, ground pork, Panko, egg, allspice, nutmeg and cooked onion and parsley; season with salt and pepper, to taste. Start with 1 1/2 tsp of each.
Reheat the skillet to medium high. Take a small portion and place it in the skillet. Sauté until cooked through, about 4 minutes. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
Roll the mixture into 1 1/4 inch meatballs, you should get at least 34 meatballs.
Add remaining 1 tablespoon olive oil to the skillet. Add meatballs, in batches, and cook until all sides are browned, about 4-5 minutes. You may need to add more oil.
Transfer the meatballs to a paper towel-lined plate.
Stir in sour cream; season with salt and pepper, to taste. Reduce heat to medium. Stir in meatballs and cook, stirring occasionally, until heated through and thickened, about 8-10 minutes.
Serve with your choice of sides.
